For being so central in this metropolitan area, Strathcona really has a neighbourhood feel. Regulars who live or work around the corner are very supportive - they're generally delighted to see an independent store operating here. People know each other, say hello on the streets, and care about the neighbourhood.

I love the sense of community. I also love the proximity to so many other neighborhoods. It’s close to Gastown, Chinatown, Commercial drive, Hastings Sunrise and the downtown core. That means that we can reasonably service many other neighborhoods with our goods.

Strathcona Business Resources

Area Beautification

Neighbourhood banners, seasonal hanging baskets, street and laneway cleaning, colourful murals, and an urban tree nursery all serve to enhance the Strathcona business district and attract customers to local businesses.

Compost and Recycling Program

Strathcona businesses can have their recycling and organic waste collected by the Strathcona BIA through a community waste initiative. Hard containers (plastic, glass, metal), soft plastics, and organics are all part of this comprehensive, inexpensive, community-driven program.
